Pictures from a French guy who spent some good times in few countries.

I’ll go chronologically (but I do not post my picture following that order … Most of the time I cannot wait to publish the last ones): first my 3 years in NYC where I bought my first digital camera (MINOLTA Dimage XT) … But, although it was great to be able to have it everyday in my pocket I found a lot of limitations … especially the low light sensitivity, pictures not really accurate in term of color and geometry, and the very bad flash. You have to know that I started taking picture with a “real camera”: a vintage 1973 MINOLTA srT101 that I was carrying around my neck for years (and it was really heavy !)… I still have it but it’s not woking well anymore … and for some reasons I lost 90% of the pictures I took with it ….

When I moved to Germany (3 years in the beautiful city of Freiburg), I switched to other compact cameras from CANON this time … MINOLTA was sold to SONY so I did not feel the need to stick to “my historical brand” (the best I found was the CANON Powershot sx200is … I loved its super zoom !!!!). I still use it from time to time. Oops ! I sold it to a friend of mine …

But once again (I moved … back to France) the low light limitation of such camera made me buy that one: the µ4/3 OLYMPUS PEN E-PL2. Of course, It cannot reach the low light sensitivity of a real SLR but it’s enough for me and it’s, to my opinion, the perfect compromise between a compact and an SLR … That’s the reason why OLYMPUS and PANASONIC (and others lately) have created this new type of hybrid camera, I guess !!

… And now I have seen the preview of the PEN E-P3 and I want it !!!!!!!!!

I changed my mind and will directly go to the Olympus OM-D E-M5 !!!

Photos d’un Français parti plusieurs années visiter (et travailler dans) quelques pays.

Les photos sont classés par ordre chronologique (pas vraiment en fait … j’ai craqué et je poste mes photos au grès de mes envies …), en partant de NYC où j’ai acheté mon premier appareil digital (MINOLTA Dimage XT). Même si c’était génial de pouvoir l’avoir au quotidien dans ma poche, je me suis vite aperçu des ses limitations … en particulier la mauvaise sensibilité en faible lumière même pas compensée par un flash digne de ce nom et puis, la qualité des images (respect des couleurs, géométrie, …) est également moyenne. Il faut dire que j’ai fait mes débuts avec un réflexe argentique aussi vieux que moi: un MINOLTA srT101 de 1973 que j’ai (sup)porté autour de mon cou pendant des années … Je l’ai toujours mais il ne marche plus très bien, hélas (et malheureusement, j’ai perdu pratiquement 90% de mes photos prises avec cet appareil).

Quand j’ai déménagé en Allemagne (3 ans dans la superbe petite ville de Freiburg … ou Fribourg en Français), J’ai quitté MINOLTA, ma marque fétiche (dont la division photo a, de toute façon,  été vendue à SONY) pour CANON. Toujours du compacte pour le côté pratique (j’avais trop souffert avec mon vieux MINOLTA qui me ruinait le cou). J’ai adoré (pour un temps) le Powershot sx200is pour son super zoom. Je l’utilise toujours de temps en temps. Non, plus maintenant … je l’ai vendu à une amie !

Mais encore une fois (j’ai déménagé … retour en France), je me suis rendu compte que d’être limité à 200 iso pour faire des photos sans trop de bruit de fond était, disons le … énervant. Petit miracle de la technologie, MINOLTA (et PANASONIC) avaient sorti depuis quelques temps leurs µ4/3 et le nouveau PEN E-PL2 me faisait du pied. Bien sûr, on n’atteint pas les 64000 iso d’un énorme compacte mais déjà 800 (voir 1600 en RAW) est un très bon compromis qui me satisfait pleinement !! Et puis c’est si léger !! C’est plus que certainement la raison pour laquelle ces appareils ont été crées, j’imagine.

Et maintenant, je viens de voir le futur PEN E-P3 et je le veux !!!!!!

Et bien non ! En fait, je vais directement passer à un autre modèle d’Olympus … le merveilleux OM-D E-M5 !
