Le Musée de Cluny (Les “Vendredi” avec Anne-Laure)
Cela fait un an déjà qu’Anne-Laure m’a proposé pour la première fois cette formidable idée de nos Vendredis.
A cette occasion, elle m’avait fait découvrir le magnifique jardin Albert Kahn dont vous pouvez (re)voir mes photos ici et celle d’Anne-Laure là. Un an que nous nous promenons dans Paris, à travers ses rues, ses quartiers, ses églises et châteaux, … pour vous montrer nos différents regards sur ces superbes lieux (petit récapitulatif en cliquant ici).
Aujourd’hui, c’était à moi de faire découvrir à Anne-Laure un endroit que j’affectionne tout particulièrement … Même si vous verrez encore beaucoup d’oeuvres d’art religieuses il ne s’agit pas d’une église mais du musée de Cluny qui est consacré au Moyen-Âge.
Ce musée est situé dans les thermes gallo-romains (Ier-IIIe siècles) que je n’ai pas encore visité car pleuvait à chaque fois … et l’hôtel des abbés de Cluny (fin XVe siècle) … là encore, je n’ai pas pu visiter son jardin … Merci la pluie !
Vous verrez des photos des statues originales de Notre Dame, décapitées par les révolutionnaires et retrouvées par chance en 1977, certaines tapisseries (ou détails) de la Dame à la Licorne, de splendides vitraux et beaucoup d’autres beautés.

It’s been already a year Anne-Laure asked me for the first time if I would be interested to publish together every Friday.
On this first occasion, she made me discover the beautiful garden Albert Kahn which you can (re)view my photos here and Anne-Laure’s there. One year we walk in Paris, trough its streets, its neighborhoods, churches and castles, … to show you our different views of these beautiful places (short summary here).
Today it was my turn to find a place that I particularly like … Although you will see again many religious artworks, this is not a church but the museum of Cluny that is dedicated to the Middle Ages.
This museum is located in the Gallo-Roman thermal baths (first-third centuries) that I have not yet visited because it rained every time … and the Hotel of the abbots of Cluny (late fifteenth century) … For the same “humid” reason, I have not visited its garden …
You will see pictures of the original statues from Notre Dame, beheaded by revolutionaries and luckily found in 1977, some tapestries (or details) of the Lady and the Unicorn, some beautiful stained glasses and many other beauties.

I remember being handed mediaeval music, I think from Cluny Abbey? to translate into modern notation. The place has such a history. But this museum? It makes me want to jump on the first plane out there!
The museum is located in the abbatial mansion built by the abbots of the Cluny Abbey (in Burgundy) who previously established a university at the beginning of the thirteenth century in that neighborhood of Paris (it was precisely located where the Sorbonne is now in the Quartier Latin).
This museum is just magnificent !! It’s a “must visit” next time you’ll come to Paris !
En plus des sculptures et des tapisseries que vos photos ont si bien mises en valeur, le musée propose aussi des concerts de musiques médiévales. Cela peut dérouter (au début) un peu nos oreilles du XX-XXIe siècle mais c’est très intéressant et très “dépaysant” !

Je suis allé il y a quelques années faire les médiévales à Souvigny … mes oreilles ont donc déjà eu l’occasion de se familiariser avec la musiques moyenâgeuse
